About Me

Hazardous Hex

My work is based on the appropriation, de-contextualisation and subversion of pre-existent objects and materials. These inspire my creative thoughts and practices. My work explores their power, meaning and purpose and how to challenge hierarchies of functionalism and consumerism. It questions the materiality of everyday objects along with their cultural and psychological significance.
I consider myself an interdisciplinary artist, using or combining elements of sculpture, assemblage, painting and craft. These works are intended to challenge the dichotomies of hand craft and industrial production, as well as addressing the issues of beauty and decoration that continue to cause debate within the art world.
In conjunction with a long-standing pre-occupation with religion, ritual and gender associations they demonstrate my concerns with surface and the seductiveness of a decorative aesthetic and nvestigate elements of excess and control.
